Our Family Story
The Jolly Roger Motel is proudly 100% family-owned and operated by the Tenaglia Family, who are now in their third generation of hospitality in Wildwood Crest.
The family’s journey began in 1973 when Joseph & Maria Tenaglia purchased their first rental property on Poplar Ave. They later moved from Philadelphia to Wildwood Crest full-time and expanded their hospitality footprint with ownership of several well-known properties, including the Viking Motel, the Sands Resort, and the Summer Sands Motel.
Their connection to the local community also includes family ties to Snuffy’s Restaurant, a long-standing Wildwood Crest favorite that operated for over 50 years.
In 2014, The Jolly Roger Motel became part of the Tenaglia family portfolio, continuing their tradition of hands-on hospitality and guest-focused service. Today, the third generation is actively involved in the business, carrying forward the same commitment to quality and care that started over 50 years ago.
Originally built in 1960 by Palmer Way & Will Morey Sr., The Jolly Roger Motel has long been one of the most recognizable beachfront-style motels on the East Coast.
Designed in a classic Mid-Century “retro” style, the property has evolved over the decades from a smaller beachfront resort into its current iconic layout. While the surrounding beach block has changed over time, the motel continues to preserve its unique character and history.
The Jolly Roger blends vintage charm with modern comfort, offering retro-style rooms, free WIFI throughout the property, and a poolside restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and smoothies.
Now proudly pet-friendly, guests can bring along their furry family members and continue making memories at their lifelong vacation spot. In fact, some families have been returning to The Jolly Roger since its opening year, making it a place where traditions are created and passed down through generations.
About The Jolly Roger Motel
In 2024, the Tenaglia Family proudly expanded their portfolio with the purchase of The Sands Motel in Wildwood. Formerly known as the Days Inn property, the motel was renamed in honor of the family’s long-standing history with the Sands Resort.
This location is a great option for guests looking to stay closer to the boardwalk or visit during the off-season while still enjoying the same family-operated hospitality experience.
